Alex Ross - On-site Infiltration Test Results

When rain falls on the land the resulting runoff depends on catchment characteristics, on land usage, on the degree of urbanisation etc. These factors also influence the amount of rainwater infiltration into the ground. Infiltration is a significant component of hydrologic processes.

Tests undertaken on site by Alex Ross, retired Civil Engineer, were to establish a reasonable estimate for the infiltration rate on land and soils in the Pinehaven Catchment. Infiltration rates on the forested and bush-clad hills ranged between 512 - 900 mm/hr.
